Lu Rou Fan: A Simple Yet Soulful Taste of Taiwan

Have You Tried Braised Pork Rice?
A simple bowl of steamed white rice, topped with a spoonful of rich, savoury braised pork sauce, paired with minced or diced pork simmered to perfection—every bite delivers a deep sense of satisfaction. This is Braised Pork Rice.

This dish is a product of resourcefulness from Taiwan's agricultural past, where every ingredient was used to its fullest potential. Pork belly, diced pork skin, and flavourful seasonings are slowly simmered to create a dish bursting with flavor. It’s a meal that transcends social classes—you’ll find it in humble street food stalls and high-end restaurants alike.

For me, Braised Pork Rice carries a deep sense of nostalgia. As a child, I always felt plain white rice lacked something, but adding just a little extra to upgrade it to Braised Pork Rice made all the difference. When that steaming bowl of rice was served, with the sauce slowly seeping into the fluffy white grains, the sweet and salty aroma was pure magic—an indescribable satisfaction.

When I moved to Ottawa, Braised Pork Rice became one of the flavours I missed most. During the long, cold winters, I often find myself slow-cooking a pot of braised pork. The aroma transports me back to the bustling night markets and the smoky street food stalls of home—a vivid and heartwarming memory.

At Gubahmi, we want to share this humble yet soulful dish with everyone. Using premium minced pork, soy sauce, rock sugar, rice wine, and other classic seasonings, we slow-cook our braised pork for hours, ensuring that every grain of rice is drenched in the delicious sauce. Paired with freshly cooked rice, each bite is a condensed taste of Taiwan’s culinary heritage.

To make this dish more accessible, we’ve packaged our Braised Pork Rice sauce in convenient frozen packs. Simply reheat it in hot water, pour it over your rice, and enjoy a quick yet satisfying meal. You can also upgrade a plate of blanched vegetables for an even heartier dish. (Note: Do NOT microwave—the diced pork might explode!)

This convenient design preserves the dish's authenticity, allowing you to enjoy the comforting taste of home anytime, anywhere.

Have you tried Braised Pork Rice?
Do you prefer mixing the sauce thoroughly into your rice to ensure every grain is coated, or do you sauour each bite individually, enjoying the contrasting flavours of plain rice and braised pork?
